About the event

Every year we host a "rising" to support and bring awareness to the 1 Billion Rising movement - the biggest mass organization action to end violence against women. This year we will be dancing in class to support this movement and a portion of class proceeds will be donated to contribute towards the organizations efforts.

Our Ojai rising class is on International Women's Day weekend - Saturday, March 7th 10-11am.

Suggested Donation: $20. No one turned away. Everyone is welcome!

About One Billion Rising

One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence) in human history. The campaign, which launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.

Why Dance?

“Dancing insists we take up space, and though it has no set direction, we go there together. Dance is dangerous, joyous, sexual, holy, disruptive, and contagious and it breaks the rules. It can happen anywhere, at anytime, with anyone and everyone, and it’s free. Dance joins us and pushes us to go further and that is why it’s at the center of ONE BILLION RISING” – Eve Ensler

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE DANCE ARTS

You are supporting the continuation of our endeavors to bring more of the cultural dance arts to Ojai. Without the support of our community we would not be able to continue furthering our dance traditions and passing the joy and passions of dance from generation to generation.
